Senior year has a way of making parents believe they have more time than they do.

At the beginning of the year, graduation feels far away.

There are football games to attend, college visits to schedule, forms to complete, activities to enjoy, and a calendar that somehow becomes fuller every week.

It feels like there will always be time later.

Until suddenly there isn’t.

And that’s the biggest mistake many parents make during senior year.

They wait.

Senior Year Doesn’t Move Slowly

Most parents remember the first day of kindergarten.

The first lost tooth.

The first school performance.

The first time their child drove away alone.

Somehow those moments feel both distant and recent at the same time.

Senior year works the same way.

You think you have months.

Then you’re ordering graduation announcements.

Then you’re attending award ceremonies.

Then you’re helping pack for the next chapter.

A requirement.

A milestone.
